This superb Garden Studio is a benchmark for quality.
A SIP (structural insulated panel) airtight structure sitting on an insulated raft foundation slab with a heat recovery ventilation system. DEVImat electrical underfloor heating provides necessary heating source for this very well insulated dwelling.
Project idea was to create an extra bedroom in the garden with an en-suite bathroom and a small kitchenette. We had to use two cold water feeds for the garden room – mains water for the cold kitchen tap and feed from the existing house storage tank. Only tank feed should be pressurized by water pressure pump. Sewage line had to go through the step down chamber to achieve the gradient fall 1:40 all the way.
This studio incorporates the best of the best – a triple glazed timber sliding door and windows, solid oak flooring, a solid oak presses, a fully tiled bathroom and a solar thermodynamic solution for hot water needs. A space saving bathroom sliding door disappears in the wall cavity. Super bright dimmable LED lighting throughout the garden room. A steps from antislip composite decking at the front. When you’re stepping out, acrylic perspex glasslook canopy with stainless steel frame provides you needed shelter from the weather. And cedar cladding with wall washer lights to finish it off…
Fiberglass roofing system has been used on this flat roof building to have a long maintenance free lifespan.
The site access wasn’t easy…. No side entrance… everything had to go through the house. And because of the unique layout of the property – only by buckets… Even concrete we pumped through the house. Overhead electric wires was in the way to reach into the garden from above…
We were on a tight deadline here. Pushing in full force, we managed to complete this project almost in 5 weeks from start to finish, to give this fantastic family a good Christmas break.
