Contemporary style House Extension, Dublin 12

Modern extension ideas might just be what you’re looking for if you want to make a design statement. While a modern extension can be a striking addition to a house, it’s important to ensure that your design remains sympathetic to the existing building as well as being appropriate to its settings.

We were approached by Marc, he had it all figured out, right down to the detail… drawings and a 3D model were supplied. The idea of a clean, straight lined, minimal but not minimalist look, with plenty of personality.
The section between the existing house and extension was designed to create an impeccable transition feel. A unique way to break away from standard solutions, which worked perfectly..
To improve the original design we recommended that we should go for a floor to ceiling 3 meters tall bi-fold door that opens into the garden. Bi-folding doors are a fantastic way to maximize natural light, while creating a seamless link between your internal and external spaces. These sleek doors transform an everyday room into a contemporary space with a real wow-factor. A small roof overhang shields the doors from the weather when they are open.

To take away the standard look of the flat roofs, the large roof is finished with a green sedum blanket. It contains natural properties that allows vegetation to develop and maintain itself. Sedums are shallow rooted therefore, they don’t need a lot of room to grow. The small roof finished with loose pebble stones.
The structure itself is timber frame built on a passive foundation system from KORE. Airtight and flooded with natural light…feeling the benefit of more room in no time.
